Have you ever spend time to think thoroughly about your personal brand and how you could leverage it to become more successful?
The fact is that everyone has a brand since the day they were born.
A brand is how a person appear to the world, and what others will based on to identify one from another.
Being an entrepreneur or a business owner, or just working in business in general, it’s important that you must take good care of your brand in terms of image and reputation, both in real life and online.
In this digital age when every bit of information is available online, consumers will certainly look up info about you first on Google before come into actual contact and purchase products and services. You can say that your image and reputation don’t matter much in the purchasing process of a consumer, but to be honest it matters a lot. You must remember that you are a part of your business’s brand too, as when people talk and remember about the business, it’s your name and face that will appear in their mind on top of everything else.
There have been many cases in which people make the decision to not buy from a business or switch to another brand because they don’t like the current owner of the business, or they feel like the beliefs and actions of the owner are different from what the business stands for, which make them feel cheated and used just for money. For example, imagine a business that proclaims to be animal-friendly, but its owner is a huge fan of hunting. Many consumers will think that the “animal-friendly” is just a label on the product to help it sell and make the owner rich, which will prompt them to not buying anymore and go to another business.
A bad personal brand image also hinders your pathways in collaboration and recruitment.
Suppliers will not be willing to collaborate with a business that has an owner with a bad professional image, no matter how good the products and services the business can provide. And obviously, high quality candidates would not prefer to have a job at a business that has a bad reputation, or work under a boss who has a negative brand image.
So, how to create the best personal brand for yourself? There is no clear answer for this question. However, it is universally agreed that the most important thing in building a personal brand is to find out who you really are and be honest about it.
Your brand, at the end of the day, is the reflection of who you are.
Authenticity is what people are looking for, so don’t be afraid to show your true self. A fake persona might work for a while, but the tiniest bit of inconsistency will lead to problematic results for both you and your business. Be real, be honest, and be open – the right opportunities will start coming your ways sooner than you think.
