Time, we all have the some amount yet we are constantly looking for more. We can not create it yet we can waste it. How is your week going? Are you organizing your days to be productive or are you sitting and staring out the window wondering how you are going to get everything done? I am reminded of a great quote by Mohandas Gandhi, “There is more to life than increasing it’s speed”. With effective Time Management we do not have to do more to be better, you just need to do what we are doing better to get results that will change

There is no secret to Time Management, it is about organizing. Organizing is a skill, all skills are learnable. You can learn the skills of Time Management, you can learn to be organized, you can learn to be efficient and you can learn to be an effective person in your workplace.

When you learn these skills you will become organized, extremely efficient and a very effective worker. You will produce more than you have in the past and in the same period of time more than the people around you doing the same work.

The defining elements of all high achievers is that they are all persistent and continuous planners.

The good news for being a person who plans and organizes their time is that for every minute you spend in planning saves you ten minutes in execution.

“Action without planning is the reason for every failure,” says Peter Drucker
Six Keys to Personal Organisation

1.Neatness
a. Neatness is the key habit for personal productivity
b. Productivity will increase along with your output simply by organizing and cleaning up your workplace
c. You get a feeling of satisfaction as you put your life and workplace in order
d. Through neatness, you become more powerful as a person, you generate more energy and have an increased determination to get the work completed

2. Self Evaluation
a. Have a look at your work station and ask: What kind of person works here?”
b. Then ask: “Would I want that person working for me?” and “Would I give them work that requires responsibility?”
c. Why or Why not?
d. Take the time to look at yourself as though you are looking through someone else’s eyes.

3.No Excuses
a. This is the time the excuses come out. Are you saying things like: “I know where everything is.” Or “A clean desk is the sign of a sick mind.” Whatever the excuse, now is the time to drop it.
b. The excuses are the self-delusion that goes on. Time and Motion studies have shown that the cleaner and more organized the work environment the efficiency and effectiveness of the individual goes up accordingly.
c. If you are the person that would justify and attempt to explain how being untidy works then; Work in a cluttered environment for two weeks. The results will speak for themselves.

4.Your Environment
a. This is about working from a clean desk each day. At the conclusion of each day everything that is on your desk needs to be cleared away so you can start the new day with a clear and uncluttered desk.
b. The best way to get this, is to do it. Refer to Key No.3 and then commit to excellence.
c. If you are thinking of the excuses and reasons as to why you should not, then ask yourself; “Why am I resistant to change?”

5. Planning
a. When you are planning a job assemble all the tools and resources you need first, prior to commencing.
b. Get all the files and information you need assembled before you commence, then when the work starts you have everything at your fingertips.

6. Do Each Job Once
a. Make it your work habit to handle each item that you are working on once, avoid the paper shuffle.

Until next time, enjoy the benefits of an oganised lifestyle and the relief it brings to your life.
