What Options Do You Give Yourself?

(This is the case of Just in Case.)

Are you setting the goals that will give you the success and lifestyle you are striving for? Do you goals have actions around them that will propel you forward?

There are certain moments in our lives that are fixed. There are times were action is called for and will be a defining point in our lives. What options are you giving yourself with the thought that your options are giving you an advantage?

In 207 BC, Xiang Yu led a rebellion where his army advanced towards Julu. After crossing the Zhang River, Xiang Yu ordered his men to sink all their boats and break their cooking pots. He issued each soldier three days’ rations and warned them that there was no way to retreat. This was done in order to force his men to choose between prevailing against overwhelming odds within three days or die trapped before the walls of the city with no supplies or hope of escape; the only thing they could do to survive was to advance and flight. After nine fierce battles, the Qin army was finally defeated.

We buy insurance policies when we purchase high priced electrical equipment as a way of keeping us safe with options to look after our investment. We keep our children involved in all sorts of activities to give them options as they grow up. It is the activity of keeping ourselves important and safe that we hang on to, safe with thinking that the options we choose will protect us.

In the running back and forth, from one activity to another we find ourselves focusing on many activities that can provide an opportunity to work hard and keep busy. My question is this: “Is your activity providing you with the income and lifestyle that you believe you are working towards?”

There comes a time when we need to “burn our boats and crush our cooking pots”. How serious are you at being successful and achieving your goals and creating the lifestyle you desire?

In our running back and forth doing the things that seem important, we forget to spend time on what is really important to us. What can happen as we are presented with multiple options we can get caught up in the game of decision-making? By having lots of options we create the feeling of busyness and importance. When in reality we could be avoiding the success we are striving for. Even though we interpret busy as successful; are your goals being realized? Are you living the life you have dreamed of?

Maybe now is the time to minimize your options and become really clear on what it is you are wanting, “burn your boats and crush your pots”, go for what is important, become single minded about your goals and get what you are desiring and working towards.

Now is the time to have the conversation about your goals and what is important to you. Take action, cut off the options and move forward and have what you give your attention to.

Cheers
